GUCSAT1
I led the development of GUC-SAT 1, a CubeSat-inspired platform for onboard image capture, hardware-accelerated compression-encryption, and secure downlink transmission. Using a Raspberry Pi 5 as the onboard computer and an FPGA accelerator, we implemented real-time Rice compression and AES-128 encryption for high-throughput, secure data handling.
We designed the end-to-end pipeline, including a fault-tolerant UART bridge, burst buffering, and a ground station client for telemetry reception and image reconstruction. The architecture emphasizes modularity, scalability, and reliability, mirroring real satellite workflows.
GUC-SAT 1 was presented at the Green AI Workshop (GUC × KIT × IEEE Egypt), recognized for its technical impact. The project strengthened my skills in hardware/software co-design, FPGA development, and embedded system integration, bridging theory with hands-on space engineering.
